Mrs. Irma Jean Owen, 91 of Abingdon, died at 12:22 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.
She was born April 9, 1928 in Abingdon, the daughter of George and Bertha (Wilmoth) Dupin. She married Isaac “Ike” F. Owen on December 5, 1948. He preceded her in death on August 25, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Richard E. Owen, one great-granddaughter, Maci Jade Chavez, her brother, George F. Dupin and her sister, Ruby Stivers.
Jean is survived by two sons, Rodney L. (Mary Jane) Owen of Modesto, California and Randy N. (Becky) Owen of Abingdon; one daughter, Rose M. (Gerry) Guthrie-Dorvil of Roseville; nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and their families.
She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1946. She worked at the Blue Bell Factory in Abingdon, Gale Products in Galesburg and later as a cafeteria cook for 18 years for Abingdon School District #217, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church and the Hope Circle. She was also a member and past president of the Jolly Grandmothers and a member and past president of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 Auxiliary.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, February 24, 2020 at the Abingdon United Methodist Church, 401 N. Washington St. in Abingdon. Rev. Scott Carnes and Rev. Bob Malone will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
